Quang Dong assembly hall - Hoi An ancient town
Quang Dong assembly hall (address - 176 Tran Phu Street) also known as Quang Trieu assembly hall was built in 1885, initially to worship Mazu and Confucius, after 1911 moved to worship Guan Gong and ancestors. This is also a meeting place of the Guangdong people living in Hoi An.
Architectural of Quang Dong assembly hall is quite scale with stone walls and two blocks of houses in the East and West. The whole building is built on a broad and high ground. Center of the yard is a large lake with a winding flexible dragon statue according to the "carp turns into a dragon" legend.
Quang Dong assembly hall looks stately, with the harmonious use of wood, stone in bearing structure and ornate motifs. The beams are tall, finely carved, splendid. The roof is shaped curve, many floors, and between floors are embossed multiple images according to the ancient legend.
Quang Dong assembly hall preserved many ceramic artifacts, the image of the plays in Guangdong culture. Especially the ancient relics such as 4 large paintings; a bronze censer 1.6m high, 0.6m wide; a pair of rare porcelain... and many documents about the life of Guangdong community in Hoi An.
Every year, on January 15 Lunar, Nguyen Tieu festival and ancestor worship are held in Quang Dong assembly hall, with the traditional ceremony, partying, and happy new year. In addition, on June 24 Lunar, this place will hold Guan Gong festival with a lot of locals and tourists to attend.
